President Obama Attends Farewell Party For Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner

No alcohol served thanks to budget considerations, President jokes...
President Obama spent Wednesday morning at the White House announcing gun control measures, and took the opportunity to blow off some steam on Wednesday afternoon with a farewell shindig for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.  The President, who told the nation during the final news conference of his first term that he "likes a good party," strolled to the Treasury Department with Vice President Joe Biden at about 4:21 PM (above), trailed by Secret Service agents and aides including Tom Donilon, Bruce Reed and Steve Ricchetti.

Geithner leaves the Administration on Jan. 25.  The President spent about half hour at the Treasury, departing at about 4:50 PM, munching party food as he walked back to the White House.

"They didn't serve any alcohol," the President told pool with what was reported as "a BIG grin."

"Still on a budget," the President joked.

Guests included Geithner's family, according to a White House official.  The President was preceded to the fete by his nominee for Treasury, Chief of Staff Jack Lew, and a slew of West Wing staff, including Senior Advisors David Plouffe and Dan Pfeiffer, Press Secretary Jay Carney, Alyssa Mastromonaco, Gene Sperling, Brian Deese, Jason Furman, Nancy-Ann DeParle, Jeff Zients, Jennifer Palmieri, as well as "a few others," pool reported.

Shortly after the President returned to the White House, a lid was called for the day.  The President will have more partying on Thursday, when First Lady Michelle Obama celebrates her 49th birthday.
