Inauguration Day: First Lady Wears Ensemble By Designer Thom Browne

Mrs. Obama's outfit and accessories will go to the National Archives...

For the 57th presidential Inauguration Ceremony on Monday, First Lady Michelle Obama is wearing an ensemble by American designer Thom Browne, according to a White House official.  Mrs. Obama welcomed the designer to the White House last year for a luncheon celebrating the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards.  Browne was the honoree for fashion design.  Above, with President Obama on Monday morning; he is wearing a blue suit and light blue tie
"The First Lady is wearing a navy Thom Browne coat and dress," said the White House.  "The fabric was developed based on the style of a man’s silk tie." 

An embellished belt and eggplant gloves Mrs. Obama will wear are from J.Crew, and her necklace was  designed by Cathy Waterman. She will also wearing Reed Krakoff boots, according to the White House, but in the morning Mrs. Obama wore blue pumps to a church service.  

"At the end of the Inaugural festivities, the outfit and accompanying accessories will go to the National Archives," the White House said.

Mrs. Obama's navy blue, maroon-print dress for President Obama's Sunday swearing-in ceremony at the White House was also by Reed Krakoff.

Daughter Malia wore a pink J. Crew coat with contrasting violet tights and a maroon scarf, and Sasha wore a periwinkle Kate Spade coat, with a lavender scarf, also with coordinating colored tights.
