Pixelated history: Only the second presidential portrait ever created with a digital camera...
Two days ahead of his second swearing-in ceremony on Sunday, the White House has released a new portrait of a smiling President Obama, taken in the Oval Office last year on Dec. 6, 2012.
When the portrait was taken by chief White House photographer Pete Souza, the President was in the midst of White House holiday festivities, and also focused on his #MY2K campaign, urging Congress to offer tax cuts for middle class Americans.
The President's first portrait by Souza was released on January 14, 2009, by the Obama Transition Team. It was the first presidential portrait ever created with a digital camera, and was not taken in the Oval Office, because the President did not move into the White House until Jan. 20, 2009. The President was not smiling, and he also had far less gray hair.
On the day the new portrait was created, President Obama received the Presidential Daily Briefing, and traveled to Northern Virginia to meet with a middle class family at their home for what was largely a photo op for the #MY2K campaign. In the evening, the President and the First Family attended the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on the Ellipse.
