The Obamas Host White House Parties For Inaugural Donors

President spends Friday at off-the-record events...
Ahead of a busy weekend of inaugural action, President Obama and First Lady Obama on Friday hosted two thank-you events at the White House for donors to the Presidential Inaugural Committee.  The closed-press events, a "Benefactors Brunch" followed by a "Reception," were not listed on the President's daily schedule.  Late on Friday, the White House released the photo, above, showing the President and Mrs. Obama in the Blue Room with brunch guests.

No guest list was released for the brunch, which ran from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM.  The reception followed immediately, from 2:30 to 5:00 PM, and was also filled with unidentified guests.

"As is commonplace with past Administration [sic] of both parties, the President and First Lady today hosted friends and supporters at the White House in advance of the President’s Inauguration weekend," a White House official said.  "The event was paid for by the Presidential Inaugural Committee."

Inaugural officials won't say how much has been raised to fund the inaugural festivities, which begin Saturday with the National Day of Service event on the National Mall.  The Committee released a partial donors list earlier this month, which included names and no other information.  In a reversal of his policy for his first inaugural, the President is accepting donations from corporations this year.

"Our goal is to make sure that we will meet the fundraising requirements for this civic event, and we are on track to securing all of the resources we need," committee spokeswoman Addie Whisenant told USA Today.

The White House offered no further details on Friday's donor events.  Both were confirmed by the White House at the request of print pool reporter Alexis Simendinger, of Real Clear Politics.

The President on Friday also met with the eight  Inaugural National Citizen Co-Chairs in the Oval Office, according to the White House photo above, also released on Friday afternoon.  That event was also not listed on the President's schedule.
